Word-Based Thoughts | 2019

Updated: Sep 3, 2019

"If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen." (1 Peter 4:11 NIV).

The Scripture above gives very specific instructions to the Christian that reveal what kind of person the Christian ought to be, according to God's vision and will. The first part, in particular, tells us what kinds of words ought to be coming out of the Christian's mouth every time he or she speaks: the very words of God. This means that every word that the Christian speaks must come from Word-based thoughts; thoughts that are based on God's Word. This means that the wisdom, views, opinions and ideas that you must communicate must be the wisdom, views, opinions and ideas of God, as revealed and taught in and by the Word of God.

The Apostle Paul gave this instruction to the Church by the Spirit of God in Colossians 3:16; he said: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom..." This immediately tells us that the Christian is one who functions and speaks with the wisdom of God's Word. His or her thoughts and actions are to be based on God's Word; and God wants our thoughts to be richly filled with the wisdom of His Word. This is something that you have to practice and cultivate continually in your life. Until and unless you have Word-based thoughts, it will be very difficult for you to live the real Christian life; the life that God desires and that pleases Him; the life that's beyond religion and this world.

The Lord Jesus said, "...the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." (Luke 6:45 NIV). If your heart is full of God's Word, like Colossians 3:16 instructs us to be, then the words that you'll speak will always be the words of God, like we're instructed to do in 1 Peter 4:11. This not only ensures that you're constantly thinking, acting out and speaking the truth at all times, because God's Word is truth (John 17:17), it also allows God to communicate and express Himself in your life, to your world and to others through His Word in you. That itself is a very high honour and calling from God!

As a Christian, learn to speak words of wisdom, truth, revelation, insight, light, glory and understanding; and this will happen when you fill your heart and mind with God's Word. To be full of God's Word is to be full of God because the Word of God is God (John 1:1). This means that God's very character, personality, wisdom, understanding, skills, abilities, and so much more would be seen and expressed in and through you in a very unique, inspiring and blessed way. Many people are going to be very surprised to know, one day, that they actually already met and encountered God on many occasions when they met with Christians who were full of God's Word. Let this be a reality in your life by becoming a committed and focused student of the Word of God!
