The Divine Life

Updated: Sep 3, 2019

"...it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel." (2 Timothy 1:10 NIV).

Jesus Christ lived in this world with a different life in Himself; a life that was different to what everyone else had. He told the people in His day, "...as the Father has life in Himself; so has He given to the Son to have life in Himself." (John 5:26 NKJV). He was letting them know that He had the very same life in Himself that God, the Father, has in Himself!

This is an awe-inspiring truth. Jesus was fully God and fully man, but the life that He had in Himself made Him more than a man. He was fully divine and fully human at the same time, but the life of God in Him was more real to Him than the human life was, and His consciousness of it caused Him to live in such an extraordinary way, that it's difficult to think of Him as a man.

When He was on a boat with His disciples one day, there was a storm and the waves were raging and entering the boat. Jesus was fast asleep on a pillow at the rear-end of the boat. His disciples‎ panicked and woke Him up, saying, "Lord, don't you care if we drown?" (Mark 4:38 NIV). "And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, 'Peace, be still.' And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm." (Mark 3:39-40 KJV). Jesus couldn't panic nor be afraid in such a situation because of the God-life that was in Him. He dealt with that situation according to the greatness and superiority of that God-life that was in Him‎. He commanded the wind and the sea to be quiet and still, and they obeyed Him! When His disciples saw this, they marvelled and were struck with great awe. They asked each other, "What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?" (Mark 4:41 KJV). What they were really asking was, "What species of human being is this?" They wondered where such a man came from.

That's what the God-life does to the person who has it, understands it, and lives according to it. It causes that person think, talk and act in a ways that are far above and beyond this world, such that when that person speaks and acts, people find it difficult to understand him or her. The only ones who can truly understand them are those who possess and understand that life.

This is the life that Jesus came to give to human beings. He didn't come to give us something that we already possessed, He came to give us the highest and the best life—the life of God. This life is spiritual. It's indomitable, indestructible, and unconquerable. It's a life that is greater than and superior to this world, sin and the devil. That's why if you're a child of God, God says to you, "Whatever is born of God overcomes the world." (1 John 5:4 NKJV). This is because, as a child of God, you have the same life and nature in you that God has in Himself. God can't be destroyed nor defeated by the things of this world. Rather, He has absolute dominion over this world and everything in it. That's why when you follow Jesus' life carefully you'll find that He was never sick nor diseased. He was never weak or in need. He was never a victim; never defeated. In every situation, He was in command and on top; and He's still the same today!

If you're already a child of God, God wants you to know that you already have this life in you. He wants you to understand this life and to live according to it! If you haven't received Jesus Christ into your life, you can do so today and have the same life in you that He has. It's  God's dream and desire for all human beings to have the God-kind of life in them. That's why Jesus came into the world. You can find out how to receive this life here.
