Do You Get It? - December 15th, 2022

(Spiritual Understanding Comes Through The Word)

By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

TO THE BIBLE: “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.”

(Colossians 1:9)

There’s such a thing as spiritual understanding; but sadly, some Christians don’t recognise it and only function with human, worldly, or carnal understanding. When you talk with such people, you can understand why they reason differently. Their lack of spiritual understanding causes them to only think from the world’s perspective.

Spiritual understanding comes by the Holy Spirit and is granted you through the Word. “Understanding” as used in Colossians 1:9 is translated from the Greek word “sunesis.” It’s an interpretation, a way of thinking, a mentality. It’s a revelatory understanding which the Word of God gives.

It’ll make you spiritually wise, insightful, and discerning. It’ll cause you to have the personality that God wants you to have. More importantly, it’ll program you for the ages to come. So, if you don’t have spiritual understanding— insight into the realities of God’s Kingdom—while you’re still in the earth, how are you going to function in the world to come? It’s therefore important that you study the Scriptures with excitement and a voracious appetite.

With the Word in you, it doesn’t matter what you desire in this world; you can get it! This is why God’s ultimate desire isn’t to give you money, a car, or a great career; rather, He wants His Word in your spirit, because, with the Word in you, you can get or create anything.
