The Seed Is The Word of God

Updated: Sep 3, 2019

"This is the meaning of the parable: the seed is the word of God." (Luke 8:11 NIV).

God's Word has the power to produce whatever it talks about in your life. When the Lord Jesus was teaching His disciples about the Word of God one day, explaining to them that the hearts of human beings are like fields on which a farmer sows his seeds, He said, "...the seed is the Word of God." (Luke 8:11). This reveals a great truth about the Word of God to us: it shows us that just as every seed reproduces according to its kind, the Word (or message) that God is bringing to you at any given time, can and will produce in you and for you whatever it talks about, if you receive it into your heart.

Just as there are various kinds of seeds, God also has words that vary in kind for us at different times in our lives, according to the needs and changes that He sees are required. For example, God's Word to you about wisdom will produce wisdom in you. Even if you previously thought and acted foolishly, if that Word entered your heart, it would produce wisdom in you, driving out and replacing the foolishness with the Wisdom of God. His Word to you about success and prosperity would produce success and prosperity in your life. His Word to you about grace would produce the grace of God in your life. His Word to you about perfect health would produce perfect health in your body, and so on.

In Isaiah 55:10-11 God said: "As the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so shall my Word be that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." (NIV). He teaches us here, that just as the rain and snow come down from the sky for a purpose, that is, to water the earth and make the ground produce food and seeds for human beings and the animals, in the same way, He sends His Word out to accomplish what He purposes and desires at that time. He goes even further to let us know about the power and trustworthiness of His Word by telling us that it will not fail to do what He has sent it to do!

These truths should help you to understand why God's Word to you about wisdom won't only educate you about wisdom, but will produce wisdom in you. Isaiah 55:11 reveals that God sends His Word out to accomplish certain and specific purposes. So, when God is educating you about wisdom, His purpose isn't just for you to learn about wisdom, His desire is for wisdom to increase in your life. He wants you to express and walk in that wisdom; and His Word about wisdom, if it enters your heart and you receive and understand it, will cause that to happen to you and for you. This applies to anything that God teaches you about in His Word. Whatever that Word is about, it will produce whatever it talks about in your life. Can you see why it's so important to be in an environment where you can hear the Word of God frequently? As you continually expose yourself to the teachings of God's Word, you advantageously position yourself to receive the releases of God's graces and blessings that can only come to you through His Word!

These are amazing realities. They speak of the supernatural power of God's Word. When I share the Word of God with people, I love to help them to understand that the Word of God isn't an ordinary thing, it carries the very life and power of God in it, and has unlimited potentials. It's the same Word that created the whole world, and everything in it (John 1:1-3). That should help you to understand, to certain extents, the kind of power that we're talking about when we talk about the Word of God.
